A fireball as bright as the full Moon raced acroos the Netherland's sky.
Many people from Holland, Belgium, Germany and France have seen the event. They report it breaking apart into as many as a half-dozen pieces, followed by sonic booms, low rumbles and shaking windows. The meteor have been caught by lucky photographers, like Robert Mikaelyan taken six beautifull pictures! |

Andrew Bartlett, 63, was trying to film planes passing over his 10th-floor apartment at 103rd Street and Jasper Avenue when he saw what looked like a bright ball of flame.
He held his camera steady and caught two seconds of it on tape. The object seemed to burn out just before it reached the horizon. "The right place at the right time. It's a million-in-one chance," Bartlett said, marvelling at the video and his good fortune. |

|
A little before midnight in a suburb of Chicago, Robert Gaza sleeps deeply in his bed. Suddenly a meteorite pierces the roof of his house, breaks into two pieces and passes through the ceiling of his room. The smallest of the two pieces (178 g) goes through the window while the second (2,333 kg!) rebounds inside the room, breaking the lamp-shade, the mirror and finally stopping close to the 14 year old boy. The meteorite had exploded above the districts Park Forest, Matteson and Steger. Buildings and cars were damaged by the impact, but nobody was wounded... |

22h 20 two luminous flares illuminate successively the sky of Bavaria; a few minutes later, five deafening detonations are heard. The phenomenon is observed in Germany, Austria and even France. The star fell into the zone of the systematic observation stations of the European Network, caught "red-handed" by 7 photo, 3 radio and 2 infrason stations, and seismographs, it revealed to us its origin and destiny. Fortunate discovery: it had the same orbit as that of the meteorite of Pribram, which fell on April 7, 1959! For the first time an asteroid current was shown to exist! |

Thousands of people, from southern Poland to Moravie, observed this extremely luminous bolide. It was an extraordinary event; at its maximum the brightness was comparable to that of the sun! Just after the fireball, the fall of the meteorite was observed in a garden of a small Silesian village - Morávka - and a small piece was immediately found. |

Allen Wood, an employee of JPL in Pasadena, declared in an interview with Fox TV News,"There was a bright, bright, flash, and then it changed colors down to oranges and reds and greens and disappeared over the top of the mountain". 200 people testified to having seen these lights passing in the sky. Other luminous phenomenon occured near Los Angels at the same moment, casting doubt on these bolides. Had the meteorite rebounded? Were these extra-terrestrials? In any case, to this day no meteorite has been found near the estimated points of impact. |

Peekskill, 207 Weels Street, 19h50, a crashing noise resounds, Michelle Knapp runs to the window, a meteorite has just smashed the trunk of her car. A piece of 12,4 kg at a speed of more than 300 km/h had struck her Chevrolet Malibu. . It's the most filmed bolide: not less than 15 vidéos followed its race, the majority of the cameramen were watching a football match. An anecdote: this small city is the birthplace of the hero of signs- Mel Gibson. Poor Mel, still persecuted by an "extra-terrestrial"... |

Thirteen year-old Brendalee Walker witnesses: "It was approximately 7:15 pm. 5 February, 1977, and I was standing outside of the farmhouse, near the woodbox.[...] I was looking north and I saw what appeared to be car lights shining off our gas tank, and when I looked up the whole east sky was lit up. There was a large spark and about six little ones trailing, [...] They were all pure and very bright..." This bolide have been also photographed by MORP network, the Canadian network of cameras, and became thus the third meteorite, after Lost City and Pribram, of which one was able to deduce its orbit. |

2h30 in the afternoon, a fireball crosses the sky of west American. Linda Baker is spending her holidays with friends in the Grand-Teton national park and, believing it is a rocket fired from of the military base of Vanderburge, takes her 8 mm camera and films 28 s of its path. A few years later they will learn that it was a bolide with a kinetic energy comparable to that of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Fortunately for us, or rather for them, the object rebounds off the atmosphere and sets out again into space Perhaps the next time ! |

A story of discovery: "Within 4 days of the event, the SAO's team predict the impact area. In these winter's days, snow falls and roads are closed. On afternoon of 9th, 700m has calculate, on the road, a directed meteorite, 9.83 kg, was found!A second was recovered by Philip Halpain in his pasture, 272 g, on 17th. And a third! 6.6 kg! on february 2 , the meteorite have also a fusion crust and some flow lines. Mr. Rufus Yaeger resides 600 m of the site, the evening on 3rd, he saw three red lights and heard sonic boom, he says to heard like something heavy hitting the ground, but it seems unlikely that he perceived this noise. Then last piece, 640 g, on May 4. |

Oklahoma, an amateur astronomist - Leon Stuart - tests his new camera. He is taking a snap of the Moon, when suddenly, he sees a very luminous point on the surface of the satellite. On the film, the point is indeed there, in the south-east of the large Pallas crater. For Stuart, there is no doubt: it's a meteorite impact. Dr. Leon Stuart is the first and the only human in history to have witnessed an impact on the moon. Indeed, an event of this importance happens only once every 100000 years. |
